Fletcher Fellow
Sloan Edemann is from Troutman, NC, and a recent graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she was a part of the inaugural accelerated Master of Public Policy program, getting her Bachelor of Public Policy and Global Studies and Masters in 5 years. Her academic interests focused on public health and social determinants of health, researching and advocating for family planning, and maternal, child, and reproductive health.
At UNC, Sloan’s Master’s Individual Project with Male Contraceptive Initiative sought to increase indirect legislative advocacy for non-hormonal male contraceptives in the United States. She was also co-chair of Linking Immigrants to New Communities, teaching English to recent immigrants and connecting them to resources in their communities. During her time there, she facilitated the transition from an in-person to an online platform, offering conversation and learning opportunities to English learners worldwide.
Sloan worked at FHI 360, an international non-profit organization focused on human development and improving lives, as a knowledge management intern in the Reproductive, Maternal, Child, and Newborn Division. She worked on USAID-funded projects in Mozambique, Zimbabwe, and Uganda on maternal health and youth-specific programs. These experiences at UNC and FHI inspired her to work towards equitable health outcomes for all people.
As the Fletcher Fellow, Sloan is supporting community engagement efforts, leading research efforts, and supporting other projects for the foundation and partner organizations. In her free time, you can find her on a run, singing with her community choir, or learning new languages.
