Sierra Wingate-Bey joins the staff of AJ Fletcher Foundation as the 2014-2015 fellow, the first to occupy this role. The fellowship program aims to identify, develop, and network recent college graduates who aspire to be amongst the next generation of social sector leaders in North Carolina.

Sierra received her undergraduate degree from UNC-Chapel Hill in Journalism and Mass Communication. She was a reporter for the Carolina Connection radio show and a member of the Editorial Board of The Daily Tar Heel. Sierra completed internships with Pentacle, a nonprofit management support organization for the performing arts in New York and Black Entertainment Television (BET) in Washington, D.C.. Sierra was a regular volunteer at Jordan Matthews High School in Siler City, NC where she worked in ESL classes with students, primarily from immigrant families. An accomplished dancer, she served as Captain of the UNC Varsity Dance Team and previously attended North Carolina School of the Arts.

Sierra will spend the next year helping Fletcher Foundation advance its goal to amplify our partner organizations’ voices in public spaces, primarily using online strategies and tools. She will assist the staff’s efforts in communications, research, planning, and administration.
